Karoo Food | Dining in Somerset East, Eastern Cape

Enjoy the unique experience of Karoo Food, served in a 100 year old church.

The old Roman Catholic church - St Francis - was built in 1906, and celebrated its centenary by being christened as lounge, dining room, pub and kitchen. The kitchen was later moved out of the church in order to create more meeting space.  Please note that meals can be served in the rooms, should guests prefer to self-isolate.

Meals are served daily at 7 pm, except on Saturdays. Dinner orders must be placed before 5:30pm. A menu of our brand of Karoo Food is provided on the website. Please note that the kitchen is closed on Saturdays.

Breakfast is also served in the church building, between 7 am and 9 am from Monday to Saturday and between 8 am and 9 am on Sundays.

At the Angler and Antelope, we also cater for private functions of between 6 and 20 guests. The menu can be anything from finger food to a three course meal, just give us a call to discuss your requirements. The venue is private so that you can control the numbers in order for social distancing to be practiced effectively.  Ideal numbers for current (2021) social distancing requirements would be up to 10 guests.

The Angler and Antelope is fully licensed, and has a large malt whisky selection (over 70 now!), as well as a variety of local beer and wine. Bookings must be made in advance for private functions or conferences.  Please note that a venue fee will be charged if no accommodation is booked with the Angler and Antelope.

Whisky and food pairings can be arranged, so contact us to book a date and time.  Please note that this should be done at least 3 days in advance, and is subject to availability and certain minimum requirements.
