Hobson's Choice Fishing Festival
Held annually in October, Somerset East, Eastern Cape, South AfricaThe Angler and Antelope host the Hobson's Choice fishing festival annually in October. Conquering Hobson's Choice involves catching a rainbow trout, black bass and smallmouth yellowfish in the same day on fly. Each species caught must be over 30cm in length.
Hobson's Choice is not a competition between the anglers, but rather a challenge to every angler to see if they can achieve Hobson's Choice.
The weekend will start with an informal dinner and get-together on the Friday evening at the Angler and Antelope. It will have to be an early start on Saturday in order to get enough fishing time in to target all three species. Breakfast will be served in St Francis at the Angler and Antelope, after which you will depart to the Bass waters. From there, we go on to the Little Fish River for mid morning coffee and muffins, and try to catch smallmouth yellowfish. Lunch will be served at the historic water mill on Glen Avon farm, and hopefully the late afternoon will produce a trout to complete Hobson's Choice.
After the busy day fishing, dinner will be served in St Francis at the Angler and Antelope.
