Fly fishing services offered at the Angler and Antelope, Somerset East, Eastern Cape, South AfricaThe Angler and Antelope offers a number of services relating to fly fishing. These fly fishing services range from casting tuition, advice on the fly fishing in the area, a fully stocked fly fishing shop, and much more.
Fly fishing shop - The Angler and Antelope has a fully stocked fly fishing shop on the premises. Please do not hesitate to contact us with your requirements. If the shop does not have the stock you require, it can be specifically ordered for you ... we do fly fishing.
Fly Fishing Clinics / Team building - The Angler and Antelope has tackle for up to 20 participants, providing comprehensive insight into the intrigue of fly fishing, teaching those who have never picked up a fly rod and engaging everyone on the water's edge. Packages tailor made to suit your group.
Casting instruction - Our in-house R.E.F.F.I.S. accredited fly fishing guide is available for casting instruction / tuition. The rates are R 200 for the first hour, and R 100 per hour or part thereof thereafter.
Fly tying instruction - Our in-house R.E.F.F.I.S. accredited fly fishing guide is available for fly tying instruction, including some instruction on entomology. The rates are R 200 for the first hour, and R 100 per hour or part thereof thereafter. Alternatively, visit our Fly Fishing Events page, and see if there is a weekend clinic that suits you, as this is inclusive of a fly tying evening.
Fly fishing guiding - Several exclusive small streams and trophy still waters are accessible, but visitors to these waters must be accompanied by a guide. The cost for daily guided fly fishing for day visitors is as follows:
- 1 fisherman: R 1500 per day
- 2 fishermen: R 1000 per person per day
- 3 - 4 fishermen: R 800 per person per day
- More than 4 fishermen: Rates to be discussed
Content of guiding - Guiding by our R.E.F.F.I.S. and THETA accredited fly fishing guide consists of the following:
- Rod hire included if required
- Daily rod fees included
- Briefing of waters, benefit of local knowledge
- Assistance to set up tackle if required
- Providing a better understanding of the local habitat, entomology and fish behaviour
- Discussing tactics, fly selection, techniques, playing, landing and releasing fish
- Being positioned in the most promising position to achieve success
- Promoting and creating awareness of REFFIS and FOSAF
- Transport to and from waters in Somerset East area
- Packed lunch and soft drink or water
- All flies and tippet material
- All equipment is included in the above rates, should you require it.
Yellowfishing - First class yellowfishing is available to guests staying at the Angler and Antelope at R 400 per person per day. Day visitors would pay R 600 per person per day. Fees include transport to waters, exclusive access with Alan Hobson only, and a packed lunch.
Tackle Hire - Tackle is available for hire. Please chat to us if the items you require are not listed.
- Waders & Gum boots for hire at R 100 per person per day
- Tackle (rod, reel, line, tipppet & 3 flies) for hire at R 150 per person per day
Bankberg Troutfishers Club - For a day ticket to fish the Bankberg Troutfishers Club waters, visit the Angler and Antelope fly shop, cnr College & New (Nuwe) streets, Somerset East. Some of the Club waters are not accessible by normal motor car, and the Angler and Antelope can provide transport to these waters. Drop off and pick up are available at R 400 there and R 400 back, maximum of 4 people.
