Water Report August 2011
Fly fishing for trout in Somerset East, Eastern Cape, South AfricaWe have had some wonderful winter rains, and this has filled up the dams. Alan took a bit of a gamble at the beginning of winter and did some stocking, hoping that it would rain and it paid off. Mountain dam is looking spectacular and the fish are enjoying the fresh clean fountain water. Buffelshoek dam is full again for the first time in 2 years, and has been stocked. The trout are expected to grow around 200 grams per month, so the monsters will be back in 2 years.
With the weather still relativelycool, the Glen Avon dams and Mountain dam are all fishing extremely well. The Waterfall on the Naudes River remains a special place, and with both rainbow and brown trout stocked, offers exciting fishing for all.
The Bankberg Troutfishers Club is planning to develop new waters in the Cradock area, and stocking will commence in September 2011.
